International Sleep Products Association predicts continued gains in U.S. bedding sales, dollar values
The U.S. mattress industry is expected to see continued gains in both the dollar value and number of units shipped in 2015 and 2016, according to the latest forecast from the International Sleep Products Association.
The forecast, released in April, expects the number of units (mattresses and foundations) shipped in 2015 to rise 4% over 2014 levels and the wholesale dollar value of those shipments to increase 6.5%. For 2016, the ISPA forecast estimates a 3.5% increase in units shipped and a 6% rise in the value of mattress shipments.
Final numbers for 2014 soon will be available from ISPA. Looking at initial statistics for the year, the U.S. mattress industry saw unit sales increase 2.8% when compared with 2013. Dollar values were up 7.2%, and the AUSP increased 4.2%.
ISPA’s Statistics Committee prepares forecasts for the U.S. mattress market, typically twice a year or more often if market conditions warrant it. Forecasts are based in part on an economic analysis prepared by the University of Michigan and input from the committee. The forecast also contains economic and market analyses by Jerry Epperson, managing partner of Richmond, Virginia-based investment banking firm Mann, Armistead & Epperson Ltd., and Ashraf Abdul-Mohsen, vice president of economic research for Association Research Inc. in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
