U.S. mattress sales rose in December, compared with the same month in 2012, according to the Bedding Barometer (pay wall), a monthly sales report published by the International Sleep Products Association. Unit sales (mattresses and foundations) increased 4.8%, and the wholesale value of those units rose 7%, compared with the same month in 2012. For the same period, the average unit selling price increased by 2.1%.
Full-year unit shipments for 2013 rose slightly, showing an increase of 1.5% as compared with full-year 2012. Wholesale revenues for 2013 rose 2.1%, as compared with full-year 2012, with innerspring dollars up 8.1% while the noninnerspring segment fell 4.3%. The AUSP was flat, rising 0.5% as compared with the prior year.
