The Bedding Barometer, a monthly statistical analysis of U.S. mattress sales (paywall) published by the International Sleep Products Association, shows that mattress sales climbed a healthy 7.8% in January, as compared with January 2014. ISPA says the wholesale dollar value of mattresses and foundations sold in the U.S. in January grew 12%. The average unit selling price increased 3.9% compared to January of last year.
Sales trends for the three-month period from November to January, show that unit sales increased by 7.8%, wholesale dollars grew by 13.2%, and the AUSP grew 5%–compared with the same period one year ago.
The Bedding Barometer reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) for 13 U.S. mattress producers. Participating companies account for 70.1% of the mattresses shipped and 78.2% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2013. The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Barometer results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of workdays and holiday promotions in a given month, weather conditions, non-reporting manufacturers entering or exiting the market and other variables.
