Through its Culp Home Fashions mattress fabrics division, High Point, North Carolina-based fabric supplier Culp Inc. has invested in adding advanced quilting equipment at its sewn mattress cover operation in Haiti on the northeast border of the Dominican Republic.
Company officials said the investment encompasses several technology upgrades to enhance product quality and customer satisfaction. These upgrades include advanced quilting machines that ensure precision and consistency in every quilted and sewn cover. A complete flat-pack and roll-pack machine will support diverse customer packaging needs, while specialized tape-edge machines will maintain the highest standards in tape application for durability and quality. The company has also implemented border measure-and-cut technology to optimize material usage and accuracy, with border double-head sergers designed to enhance seam strength and aesthetic finishes. Additionally, metal detectors installed on each sewing line ensure covers are free from needle metal contamination.
“This investment represents another step in our growth strategy for Culp Home Fashions,” said Iv Culp, president and CEO of Culp, Inc. “By equipping our team with this efficient and diverse quilting equipment, we can better meet our customers’ needs with unparalleled quality and efficiency.”
Culp Home Fashions President Tommy Bruno said the upgraded quilting capabilities enhance CHF’s ability to deliver exceptional products to bedding customers worldwide. “With this new equipment, which will be operational as of January 1, 2025, we will have cutting-edge capabilities to produce superior quilted covers, reinforcing our leadership in the fabric and sewn cover business for bedding,” Bruno said.
According to a news release, these upgrades build on partnerships and personnel additions to reinforce the company’s dedication to innovation and excellence. CHF leveraged insights from its partnership with Verlo Mattress announced earlier this year to advance its capabilities, refine its sewn mattress cover offerings with customizable quilted covers and drive growth into new business segments to meet the evolving needs of the bedding industry.
Earlier this year, Armando Alfaro was appointed as CHF’s director of business development. He has more than eight years of experience in the quilted cover industry and will oversee Culp’s global cut-and-sew operations for bedding. Additionally, Paige Seadler recently joined the company as CHF’s director of product marketing. She has more than a decade of leadership in the mattress industry and will oversee cover development, brand experience and project management, the news release said.
