Hartford, Connecticut-based Gold Bond, an independent mattress manufacturer, has partnered with a new logistics resource to enable it to deliver “small batch” orders to retailers quickly and efficiently.
The new program offers a solution to independent dealers who place smaller orders and need to receive the product more quickly than waiting for traditional route-based delivery, according to a news release.
“We have many smaller independent dealers who place an order for 10 or 20 pieces at a time,” said Gold Bond CEO Bob Naboicheck. “They can’t afford to hold inventory for a variety of reasons and also cannot wait for a scheduled delivery from a truck on a longer route. This new option enables us to have a dedicated smaller van or truck do the delivery.
The new freight source offers a variety of vehicles to enable this service, company officials said. Delivery is quicker and with less damage to products because the trucks are dedicated to the individual customers. Product is neither put on pallets nor transferred to a number of trucks along the delivery route, which can cause product damage.
“This is a very unique service in our industry,” Naboicheck said. “Most manufacturers don’t want to handle small batches, but we thrive in this space. We are very dedicated to providing the best service possible to smaller independent dealers.”
