The balloons and ribbon from Shifman Mattresses’ 130th anniversary celebration may have come down, but the Newark factory and headquarters are humming as the leadership team forges on with its 2024 strategic plans.

“Our unique position in the industry allows Shifman to grow even in challenging sales environments,” said Bill Hammer, Shifman president. “Here at Shifman, that means continually assessing and investing in the business in key areas of production, processes and people.”

Despite the sluggishness across the industry last year, Hammer said Shifman generated growth by remaining focused on strategy and discipline. That includes the discipline to re-invest dollars into the business, especially when business conditions are challenging and there are many needs to address.

Shifman Mattress Co. is investing in these ways:

  • Upgraded showrooms in Las Vegas, High Point, and Newark elevate the experience for Shifman’s customers and their retail sales associates. The Newark showroom provides the added benefit of seeing firsthand how Shifman manufactures its luxury products.
  • Set for full launch by the end of the year, Shifman is implementing a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to better manage its business overall. This comprehensive system is designed to automate processes across vital sectors such as finance, human resources, manufacturing, supply chain, services and procurement, while maintaining Shifman’s enduring commitment to traditional techniques that preserve its manufacturing excellence.
  • The retail-focused research project, which began in 2022 and yielded a comprehensive report and guidebook for retail partners in April 2023, continues to serve independent retailers and add value to the partnerships as Shifman provides more specialized support to help retailers better understand their marketing data and drive ROI.
  • For the first time, Shifman has a dedicated trainer on staff making a pivotal step forward, optimizing the training process and elevating the overall professional experience for both the internal team and retail store associates.
  • A new strategic emphasis on procurement and logistics underscores a commitment to excellence. This investment enables the sourcing of new fabrics, natural materials, and fibers reinforcing the brand’s dedication to delivering the finest quality that sets Shifman apart.
