Gold Bond, an independent mattress manufacturer based in Hartford, Connecticut, says that dealers report premium mattresses with higher-end white ticking are attracting more consumer attention on retail floors than the colorful hues introduced in recent years. This trend has increased sales of Gold Bond’s luxury Private Reserve collection, which features “wedding-dress white” ticking.
“If you’ve been in a mattress store lately, so many of the beds are in just weird, dark patterns. Everything has gone to grays and blacks. We countered that trend with Private Reserve, electing elegant white wedding dress looks,” said Gold Bond CEO Robert Naboicheck. “What dealers are telling us, is that in the sea of dark and dreary, these while mattresses pop on the retail floor and end up having magnetic curb appeal.”
According to Naboicheck, wedding-dress white has always been associated with “light, goodness, innocence and purity.” He said those characteristics closely align with the preferences of the luxury consumer.
According to a news release, Gold Bond Private Reserve mattresses include premium spring, foam and latex options that provide maximum support and comfort. The line is built around Leggett & Platt’s 1950 Zoned Quantum Coil unit, and incorporates layers of zoned nano coils, Carpenter’s airflow-improving, spring-like Aurora foam and Talalay organic latex in higher-end models. Each of the top three mattresses in the collection has 5,208 coils.
All mattresses in the line are two-sided, adjustable-base friendly and wrapped in a 100% Belgium rayon damask cover produced by Bekaert. The Private Reserve line ranges in price from $2,000 to $3,000 in queen size at retail, the news release said.
“Consumers are investing in luxury sleep products that provide the ultimate in comfort and support. The new Private Reserve collection curates some of the newest and innovative components in luxury sleep in a durable mattress that will perform for decades,” Naboicheck said. He noted that Gold Bond also carries more colorful ticking that can be added to Private Reserve collection for dealers upon request.
