Chicago-based licensee brand Englander has appointed Lou Paige, a mattress industry veteran of 35 years, as its new president and CEO. Paige has set his sights on capturing greater market share with regional retailers through further product differentiation and enhanced customer service.
“When it comes to mattress manufacturers, regional chains are sandwiched between large brands who have a host of their own business challenges and smaller independents who may struggle to meet production, delivery and customer service goals. Englander is in a sweet spot because of our 14 plants with nationwide coverage and a tailored licensee structure that can efficiently and effectively serve their needs,” Paige said.
According to a news release, Paige is best known for his 15-year career with Serta, during which he served as director and then vice president of key accounts, as well as vice president of marketing and merchandising for the Serta Sleepmaster division. His last role was managing director of international licensee relations and development. He has also served as vice president of sales for FXI, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Restonic, and vice president of sales for Wright Labels.
“Lou is the full package — an experienced sales and marketing professional who has strong contacts and is well respected for his insight and knowledge of our industry,” said Stuart Carlitz, a member of the Englander board of directors. “If we had gone to central casting looking for the next leader of Englander, Lou’s name would have been first on the list.”
Paige plans to spend the next 100 days meeting with licensees, customers and focusing on some immediate sales opportunities. He is also planning to sharpen the brand message and presentation and building the licensee organization internationally, the news release said.
“Englander has a tremendous opportunity for further growth domestically, and certainly internationally. I am looking forward to meeting our sales reps and customers at the Las Vegas Market and sharing my initial thoughts and vision on what Englander can deliver for them,” Paige added.
