Shifman Mattresses has named industry veteran James Berry to the role of sales director. He will join the Shifman sales team at the upcoming Las Vegas Market that opens July 30.
Berry brings a lifetime of experience in the bedding industry to Shifman. He comes from a family business of five retail mattress stores in Ohio, and his career has spanned working within retail and wholesale for brands such as Purple, Intellibed, Serta Simmons and Bedgear.
As Shifman’s sales director, Berry will lead the outside sales team to expand distribution and grow the Shifman brand among furniture and mattress retailers. He will also drive sales training, communications and advertising initiative implementation for the company’s retail partners. He will report to Phil Zucker, general manager.
Prior to joining the Newark, New Jersey-based mattress maker, Berry served as director of sales for Purple’s central and west territories and two national accounts. This role evolved from his previous one as vice president of sales with Intellibed when the company sold to Purple last year.
Berry’s career includes a stint as Bedgear regional sales and marketing manager, as well as seven formative years with Serta Simmons Bedding from 2011 to 2018 where he worked his way up from field sales representative to brand director for core lines and accessories.
“James joins us at a time of significant growth and exciting company milestones on the horizon,” said Bill Hammer, Shifman president. “We believe his dynamic professional and personal background in the mattress business will help drive success for our partners and accelerate the upward trajectory of our 130-year-old brand.”
The Shifman Mattress Las Vegas showroom is located in C-1554 of the World Market Center.
