ALEXANDRIA, Va. —— The International Sleep Products Association, the voice of the mattress industry, stands with our member companies in raising concern about unsafe, noncompliant mattresses entering the U.S. market. Recent testing by Leggett & Platt underscores that too many imported mattresses sold online fail to meet the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s flammability standards, putting American consumers at risk.
ISPA believes every mattress sold in the United States must provide consumers with a safe and comfortable sleep environment. Compliance with the CPSC’s rigorous standards is non-negotiable. Mattresses that burn rapidly or fail flammability testing have no place in American homes. As the industry’s trade association, ISPA calls on regulators to take stronger action to ensure compliance and protect consumers. We are committed to working with our members, government officials and retail partners to:
- Strengthen enforcement against unsafe, unscrupulous importers and sellers.
- Increase safeguards for online mattress sales.
- Ensure that all mattresses sold in the U.S. meet or exceed federal safety standards.
Together, we can make mattresses safer, prevent dangerous products from entering the market and uphold the trust consumers place in our industry.
ISPA encourages all members to become more involved in our efforts to strengthen compliance, protect consumers and advance the integrity of the marketplace. Please contact us with questions, to share your expertise or to learn how you can contribute to these critical initiatives.
If you are not yet a member, now is the time to join.
