To help provide relief caused by Hurricane Helene, Mebane, North Carolina-based luxury mattress manufacturer Kingsdown Inc. purchased more than 100,000 units of insulin for those in need in Western North Carolina.

Due to the devastation caused by the storm, many roads and bridges were washed away or impassable, prohibiting deliveries by car. To overcome this obstacle, Frank Hood, president and CEO of Kingsdown, delivered the insulin by piloting his personal plane. According to a news release, Hood, who is a native North Carolinian is one of many pilots from across the region who are delivering toiletries and medical supplies via Operation AirDrop, a Texas-based relief organization.

“We are very happy to play a small role in helping our neighbors,” said Hood. “I am grateful I could personally participate in the larger effort of all those helping people in areas deeply affected by Hurricane Helene. In addition to the insulin, our employees and the company bought and donated other relief supplies and nonperishable foods and blankets that were delivered to relief locations.”

In addition to its Hurricane Helene relief efforts, Kingsdown has more charitable actions in the works. In celebration of its 120th anniversary, Kingsdown is partnering with Habitat for Humanity. Each Kingsdown plant will donate about 200 mattresses to those in need.

“When employees ask for community investment, we believe in responding generously,” added Hood. “We are invested in being good corporate neighbors because that is a key factor in what has made Kingstown a special company and special place to work for generations.”
