Bowles Mattress recently contributed funds to the Indiana Tree Project for the planting of 1,000 trees. This amount came from initial six-month sales of the company’s Sleep In Style mattresses. For each bed sold, two trees were planted, according to the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation.
“The projections going forward on our contribution toward the Indiana Tree Project should significantly increase in 2024 based on the initial success of this series,” said Scott Armstrong, president of Bowles. “The great part of it is the win-win for Bowles Mattress and the Indiana Tree Project.”
It is estimated that 85% of Indiana was once forested. Today, only 19% of the state is forested. The Indiana Tree Project is much more than just planting trees: Through this project, the foundation’s benefactors plan to add new acreage to Indiana’s State Forests, attempting to add 1,000 acres of new forested land.
The fund also supports projects that focus on critical habitats to encourage healthy wildlife, control invasive species and promote quality recreational opportunities through the DNR.
“Working with Indiana-owned companies to support Hoosier conservation is always a rewarding experience,” said Jody Kress, INRF executive director. “Bowles Mattress is demonstrating its commitment to enhance the community it serves and for its customers across the state.”
The Jeffersonville, Indiana-based company launched its Sleep In Style series in June 2023. The three-mattress lineup was designed to be sold through authorized Bowles retailers along with placement in Indiana State Park inns and cabins. Both events have been taking place with great success, company officials said.
