Dixie Furniture & Mattress announced it will begin total liquidation of its two stores, located in North Charleston and Walterboro, South Carolina.

The third-generation, family-owned store started in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, in 1921 when founder Abe Kirshtein started selling from a horse and buggy. In 1946, Kirshtein opened his first store and by 1961, opened a second store in North Charleston. According to a news release, third-generation family members Stan, Michael and David Kirshtein have been running the business for the last 35 years.

On January 16, the retailer will open its going-out-of-business sale — run by Planned Furniture Promotions — to the public.

“The Kirshteins’ commitment to quality and service has been evident in every aspect of the business,” said Tom Liddell, senior vice president of Planned Furniture Promotions. “As the store enters its final chapter, we’re proud to support them in this transition. This sale is a unique opportunity for shoppers to find incredible values while marking the conclusion of a truly remarkable legacy.”

The stores are located at 5550 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston and 303 Roberston Blvd. in Walterboro. Both buildings are also for sale. Those interested can contact Michael or David Kirshtein at 843-747-5784.
