MRC Marks 10 Years of Mattress Recycling in California

Industry partners and state leaders tour the DR3 Mattress Recycling facility in Woodland, California.

The Mattress Recycling Council marked the 10-year anniversary of its California mattress recycling program in January, highlighting a decade of successful collaboration between the industry, state leaders, local officials and environmental regulators.

Since launching statewide operations in late 2015, MRC’s Bye Bye Mattress program has recycled more than 14 million mattresses, diverting over 555 million pounds of material from landfills. Today, recycling access is available to consumers and businesses across California.

Retailers are an important part of the program. In addition to collecting the recycling fee that makes MRC’s Bye Bye Mattress possible, many are recycling the mattresses they take back from customers once a new one is delivered.

MRC provides free materials that help retailers explain the fee, benefits of the program and available recycling options to their customers. Visit the Resources Library on mattressrecyclingcouncil.org.
