Leeds, England-based bedding manufacturer Harrison Spinks, which has been family-owned and -operated since its founding in 1885, recently had the honor of a visit from the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Ed Anderson, who is one of King Charles’ representatives. Anderson visited the company’s Innovation Centre to honor it with two prestigious King’s Awards for Enterprise (previously known as the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise). According to the Gov.UK website, the awards recognize “outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of innovation, international trade, sustainable development, and promoting opportunity through social mobility.”

Harrison Spinks received the King’s Award for Innovation for its innovation in design, including its creation of glueless, fine-wire pocket springs. For its work in manufacturing handmade beds and spring components and distributing them in international markets, the company received the King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade. The awards are valid for five years. Harrison Spinks will also receive a crystal trophy and an official certificate, be able to fly the King’s Awards flag at its office and use the emblem on marketing materials. Representatives from the company will also be invited to a Royal reception at Buckingham Palace in London.

“We’re all feeling extremely proud and humbled to have welcomed Mr. Ed Anderson to our headquarters to receive our two King’s Awards. He met with colleagues across various areas of the business, acknowledging the group effort that has made these award wins possible,” says Simon Spinks, Group Chairman for Harrison Spinks. According to a news release, Harrison Spinks also received Queen’s Awards for Innovation and International Trade in 2018 and 2013 and for Sustainable Development in 2019.

“These awards are especially important to us as a British business – we are a company that champions homemade and homegrown materials and supports other manufacturing businesses both in the UK and overseas – they are a reflection of the hard work the team has delivered, ensuring we are constantly championing innovation and high-quality design while keeping the planet in mind.”
