The collaboration among the three companies created a wool and Tencel Lyocell blend designed to improve sleep comfort and offer a fresh perspective on textile design.

Suedwolle Group, a producer of worsted yarn in pure wool and wool blends based in Nuremberg, Germany, recently collaborated with Lenzing AG and Culp Home Fashions to develop a new range of home textile fabrics combining wool and Tencel Lyocell fibers designed to improve sleep comfort.

According to a news release, the wool and Tencel Lyocell blend combines modern and vintage styles, creating a fabric that offers practical benefits and visual appeal. The collaboration’s vintage-inspired patchwork design features angular shapes and a neutral color palette that balances warm and cool tones, rather than the standard grays and blues commonly seen in the mattress market.

Wool’s temperature-regulating properties help prevent overheating, while its moisture-wicking and breathable qualities contribute to a dry and comfortable sleep experience. Tencel Lyocell, the flagship textile brand of Austria-based Lenzing Group, adds softness and moisture control, reduces odor-causing bacteria and contributes to a more hygienic sleep environment, the news release said.

Company officials said the yarns used in the new fabrics were carefully selected to maximize performance and comfort. Suedwolle Group’s Oakport Nm 36/1 yarn, made of 50% Merino wool and 50% Tencel Lyocell fibers, enhances the fabric’s softness, durability, and usability in home textile applications.

The cooperative effort also identified opportunities for further innovation, such as introducing a core color palette and premium options for broader design applications. “Collaborating with industry-leading fiber and yarn suppliers on this project has helped create an innovative and foundational fabric that will contribute to future product development,” said Tommy Bruno, president of Culp Home Fashions, based in Stokesdale, North Carolina.
