Family-Owned Biggerstaff Furniture Going Out of Business After 78 Years

NEWS RELEASE

GASTONIA, N.C. (June 4, 2026) — Family-owned Biggerstaff Furniture will close its doors permanently after almost 80 years of furnishing homes. The final sale is underway.

Third-generation owner Ray Biggerstaff announced his retirement and has chosen leading furniture promotional sales specialists Planned Furniture Promotions (PFP) to handle the going-out-of-business sale events.

“Biggerstaff Furniture’s longevity speaks to the trust and loyalty the family earned over generations,” said Tom Liddell, senior vice president of PFP. “It is an honor to help celebrate that legacy as the family closes this chapter.”

Biggerstaff Furniture was founded in 1948 by Raymond Biggerstaff, grandfather of current owner, Ray. The store originally opened on Franklin Boulevard just 300 yards from its current location. Over the years, ownership passed from Raymond to his son, Bob, and later to grandson Robert. In 2008, Robert’s son, Bobby, joined the business, representing the fourth generation of the Biggerstaff family.

Twelve years later, the company relocated to its current 15,000-square-foot showroom, which was once a church building. Throughout nearly eight decades in business, the Biggerstaffs have maintained their unwavering commitment to friendly service and customer satisfaction.
