As ISPA expands membership to retailers and launches a new publishing partnership, the industry gains a clearer, more connected path to shaping the future of sleep products

As we begin this new year, we begin a new chapter—literally. The International Sleep Products Association has expanded its membership categories in 2026 to include retailers. 

After more than 100 years in business, the ISPA Board’s decision to expand our membership speaks to the significant changes we have seen in how mattresses are bought and sold. As a traditional manufacturing association, ISPA has long focused on representing producers and suppliers, while Sleep Savvy has helped retailers navigate an always-shifting marketplace. ISPA will now take this a step further and bring the retail voice directly into the work that strengthens the entire sleep products value chain. The only way we will continue to grow is to bring every segment of the industry together, and retailers are a critical part of that effort.

The new retailer membership category includes retail owners, executives, and managers of bedding specialty shops, department stores, furniture stores, and buying groups. Benefits include state and federal advocacy, industry data and analytics, networking opportunities, and heightened visibility. Consumer buying trends and research will continue to be shared through the Better Sleep Council, and retailers will now have a greater role in shaping these studies and putting the results into practice.

Retailers deserve the full story behind the products that reach sales floors—from regulations and market shifts to supply chain developments and consumer trends. Providing that broader picture is an important part of ISPA’s work. Our goal is simple: to support the people who support consumers.

This is an exciting moment for ISPA and for the industry. We’re building on more than a century of leadership with new energy and a broader vision that allows us to better serve every company contributing to the success of sleep products. For more than two decades, Sleep Savvy has served as a trusted guide for retailers who balance product expertise, customer care, and the realities of running a business. That mission remains this publication’s foundation. However, while we may look familiar, we will be making subtle changes to further engage retailers and retail sales associates through our new partnership with The YGS Group. 

We look forward to introducing a few thoughtful enhancements, including closer connection between the print and digital editions and new opportunities to spotlight the voices and experiences of retailers and RSAs across the country—that’s you!

What you see in these pages represents the beginning of that partnership—built on collaboration, respect for Sleep Savvy’sstrong foundation, and a shared commitment to supporting mattress retailers for the next century. I hope this issue offers ideas you can use, stories that reflect your experience, and perspectives that help you navigate a competitive and constantly evolving retail environment.
