Hi, this is Kathryn Greene, senior editor of BedTimes and Sleep Savvy magazines, and I’m here today with Robert and Gian from UT+C. Now, I understand UT+C recently underwent a little bit of a rebrand. Tell me about that.
Robert Loy
We were United Textiles Plus Components with all UT+C plus. Everybody sees that we want it to be more known more as a spring company. So we rebranded to UTC Springs. So we kept our color. But yeah, this market we came out with and, UTC Springs.
Kathryn Greene
How has the response been so far?
Robert Loy
It’s good. Everybody is, of course, seeing our mothership floating over top of the booth, you know, which is you can’t miss it here.
Kathryn Greene
In terms of products. I understand you have some new things going on. Tell me a little bit about that.
Robert Loy
We have some patent-pending technology coming out where we’re changing the diameter of the coil so we can use the same wire for the coils. We can use a lighter gauge wire to give a firmer feel. So for the bed in the box, people are always worried about weight. You know, we can use a 15.5 gauge spring to get the feel of a 15 gauge.
Robert Loy
So, it’s a firm setup just a little bit. We can zone edge support two side, four side, foam in case whatever it needs to be.
Kathryn Greene
And how has the response to that been so far?
Robert Loy
It’s been good. It’s been exciting. So you know the weight is an issue for the bed in a box, guys. So that’s that’s what they’re looking at.
Kathryn Greene
And you’re working on the sustainability front. I would love to hear a little bit more about that.
Gian Fazio
Yeah. So in, in Europe, things are moving really fast in terms of sustainability. And there is some regulation coming our way, probably in 2027. And we are trying to come up with a common standard to understand how we speak about sustainability and recycling mattresses in general. So, I’m part of EBIA, which is the equivalent of ISPA in Europe.
Gian Fazio
And I’m also working with people from ISPA and the Mattress Recycling Council. We have an event on the 6th of June, which will be a working group to understand more how we culled all the variables to eventually create digital product passports, which are going to be the the next big thing in the industry in Europe.
Kathryn Greene
Can you tell me a little bit about UTC and what you’re all about?
Robert Loy
We’re a vertically integrated company. I mean, we want to make everything that we have in-house. We’ve produced all nonwovens. We pull our own wire; we have two latex lines, two polyurethane lines, and in-house cutting. So we produce roughly 14,000 mattresses a day.
Kathryn Greene
So amazing. We’re in Poland, right? In Poland, yes.
Gian Fazio
Yeah. We’ve been around for about 20 years. And as Robert says, we try to keep everything in-house. We think that’s the key to having a good supply chain to control costs and also the availability of resources. I think you forgot knitting and weaving.
Kathryn Greene
So you have so many things going on. Right?
Robert Loy
And it’s new. I mean, we’ve just started knitting less than a year ago, and now we’re ready to sell.
